Plot Review:

Paul Baumer, a young German soldier of nineteen, who with his friends join the army after listening to patriotic speeches of their teacher, Kantorek. But soon he and his mates realize that ideals of nationalism and patriotism are empty platitudes rather than thinking that war is glorious and honorable. Impact of ten weeks of brutal training, make them think so. After two weeks of continuous fighting only eighty men of the original one-fifty man, return from the front including Paul and his company.

Paul and his friends visit Kemmerich, a former classmate who is slowly dying because he had a cut off leg after contracting gangrene. Paul returns to Kemmerich bedside, no tears in eyes, thinking just as the young man dies. As the war proceeded, Paul is suffered from poison in gas and has given a short leave. In October 1918, Paul is killed with very little fighting and army report that day reads simply as All Quiet on the Western Front Audiobook, and the end has come at last with a calm expression on Paul’s corpse.
